The master plan of the port provides for a total of 13 berths to handle 83 million MT per annum
consisting of all types of cargo such as dry bulk, break bulk, liquid bulk and containerized cargo in different independent zones.
The facilities for handling clean cargo like steel and containers have been planned in the southern part of the port keeping wind direction in view whereas the liquid bulk cargo has been planned in the north side. The dry bulk cargo has been planned in the middle keeping in view soil type and distance to the berth.
Phase-I:
Phase-I consists of two berths of 350 meters each with fully mechanized handling facilities for import of coking coal / steam coal / thermal coal / limestone and export of iron ore and finished / semi-finished steel cargo. The Phase-I will also include construction of core infrastructure such as a 18 kms long navigational channel with draught of 18 meters, a 62 kms railway line connecting the port with Indian Railways at Bhadrak. The capacity during Phase-I will be 15.25 million MT per annum of coal / limestone & 9.75 million MT per annum of iron ore.
The estimated cost of Phase-I is Rs. 24.6 billion.
